Apr. 25th, 2016 02:51 am[ Three weeks ago, a miracle occurred in the world that Ka'lan called home. The tales told of his idols, Lord Balmung Gysse'lylth and Lady Arietta Kaiser-Charisma and how they battled bravely through swaths of demons in the grand garrison of the demon king. They told of how Lord Balmung raised his holy sword high and struck with righteous fury.
Two weeks ago, the tales had reached the outskirts of the realm, and unto his own ears. During the war, Balmung had told Ka'lan to remain on the outskirts and send whatever information he could to him. Now that the war was over, Ka'lan wished to assist the restoration efforts. With a new capital built, a new society could follow. A new society meant he could settle down and find a new home.
One week ago, Ka'lan and his trusted Dire Wolf names Hermes had arrived in the New Capital. His appearance turned many heads, but he simply tipped his hat politely and carried on. No one tried to face the ranger, and he did not wish to fight anyone.
Four nights, he could not see Lord Balmung or Lady Arietta, so he found himself assisting throughout the town during the day and sleeping in the outskirts of the city. On the fifth day, Lord Balmung had summoned him to the capital hall, and offered him a job as well as a home in the New Capital. Ka'lan accepted and thus on the sixth day, the ranger moved into his small home and helped around the city.
Today, the half-elf ranger sat on a stone chair in a library as he waited and contemplated. The job was to be a retainer of sorts to his adopted daughter Aelyn.
Lord Balmung had been clear when he said not to underestimate the half-elf woman. "She is my family. She is mine and Arietta's hope for the future. Keep her out of trouble."
This confused him slightly. What kind of trouble could she even get into that compared to the hells that the world just broke free of a few weeks prior, but since Lord Balmung had asked, he would accept this responsibility.
Aelyn was supposed to meet him here at some point today, but he had arrived early. He wore his regular clothes, without his hat, so his scaled skin and elven ears were on full display.
Ka'lan looked over to a far corner, where Hermes was curled up and napping. He laughed and stretched his arms]
I think you have the right idea, Hermes.
